Developing
countries are faced with inadequate communications infrastructure
enjoyed in developed countries. Consequently, the socio-economic
activities are inefficiently managed so that overall, development in
these countries lags several folds. In a globalised community, the
military from the developed countries is now being deployed for
assignments in these “backward” countries. The military
community once deployed also ends up in the same backward environment.
Meanwhile, the military and their families must both keep abreastwith the efficiency of the home country and adapt to local environment of operation.
In this keynote
presentation, it is demonstrated that eLearning is a very good tool for
the military and their families for, not only attaining education at a
distance, but also adapting to local conditions. It is also a tool for
the military community to improve public relations in their areas of
presence as the same tool can be used by the host communities to attain
education and other services. The communities will feel they are part
of the military establishment in the area and thus cooperate in the
security objectives. The families of the military personnel will have a
“perfect” environment for concentrating on their
educationalpursuit, as they will have very few other things to do.
